Michael Dawson would love nothing more than to earn that first full England cap - his next chance to impress on the international stage arrives via a 'B' international against Albania on Friday night.

The defender already has a 'B' appearance under his belt - he played against Macedonia last summer - but despite being named in a number of squads in the Steve McClaren era, that first cap has so far proved elusive.

Michael, who played 58 of our 59 games this season, is one of six Spurs players in the B squad alongside Ledley King, Paul Robinson, Jermaine Jenas, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe.

After Friday's B friendly McClaren will name the full squad for the prestigious first full international at the new Wembley Stadium against Brazil on June 1 and, more importantly, the European Championship qualifier against Estonia on June 6.

"Obviously, it would be a great honour to win that first cap," said Michael, who won 13 caps at Under-21 level and captained the side. "It's not happened yet but I've been involved in squads and that's always a positive for me.

"I'm taking it one step at a time and hopefully I'll play on Friday.

"I have to be realistic. The Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea players are not in the B team and I'm sure they will all come back in for the full England games. But fingers crossed I will still be in the squad."

The friendly takes place at Burnley's Turf Moor, kicking-off at 8pm. It's live on Sky Sports.
