Davis on the Gerrard factor

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Sean Davis feels that Liverpool skipper Stephen Gerrard now provides the benchmark for young midfielders to try and reach

Our new central enforcer is a big admirer of the England international and says there is not really a missing element to his game.

"Yes, I think he is the benchmark now," pondered Sean ahead of the Premiership opener at the Lane on Saturday. "He's got everything in his locker, he can defend, go forward, shoot, tackle, cross - he's got the whole lot.

"A lot of players, like myself, look up to him and strive to be as good as him."

Sean added that the midfield union still have great respect for Roy Keane, but feels the swashbucking performances of Gerrard over the last few seasons have elevated him to at least equal status.

"Obviously you still look at Keane, but Gerrard is fantastic now and is a player you would pay to go and watch.

"I normally do quite well against him, but he is a player you want to strive to be like and he is obviously one of the best midfielders in the country.

"There is nothing you can say he is bad at, he does so much for the team."

Sean watched Liverpool overcome FC Graz in the Champions League qualifier on Tuesday and reports that Gerrard looked in pretty good nick.

"He was unfortunately, he scored two goals.

"I will do my best against him, I don't say I will do this or that, I'll just wait for the day and hopefully it will come good for me."
