Davies, Dier, Kane on the Champions League draw

24 August 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Our players have reacted to our UEFA Champions League draw where we've been pitted against holders Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and APOEL of Cyprus.

We met current holders Real Madrid at the quarter-final stage of our 2010-11 run in the competition, while we faced German giants Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League round of 16 in 2015-16. We have never previously faced APOEL of Nicosia, Cyprus in competitive action.

Harry Kane

"It’s a great draw. You expect to play the best in Europe in the Champions League and it’s exciting for us. We look forward to these games. You want to test yourself against the best and Real Madrid are the best at the moment. It will be interesting to see where we’re at and a great test for us against Borussia Dortmund and APOEL as well. I remember the game against Real Madrid at the Lane in 2011. I’m sure Wembley will be packed for the matches and we can’t wait to get started. Our aim is to win every game and this will be a good test to see where we’re at and how far we’ve come."

Ben Davies

"It’s a tough group but we have to be excited with these fixtures. It will be a great experience for our Club and we’ll be looking to get some positive results. Of course, the Real Madrid game is going to be huge for players, fans and the Club and it’s an opportunity to test ourselves against some of the world’s best players. We’re excited going into these games and if we can start well, there is no reason why we can’t do something special."

Eric Dier

"It’s a very exciting group and from last season’s experience, we know there are no easy games in the Champions League. Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, who we played in the Europa League a couple of years ago – our styles will make for a great game in that one. APOEL will be tough as well. To play against Real Madrid will be a fantastic experience for us all, that’s what the Champions League is all about, pitting yourselves against the best teams in Europe. They are the reigning champions as well, so that makes it even more special. We respect every opponent and we’ll give everything against every opponent as well and try to beat them. It’s exciting for our fans, a really exciting group and we’re all looking forward to it."
