Davies banishes the blues

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Simon Davies has finally banished the blues.

The young midfielder's confidence was hit for six when, after coming on as an early substitute in the first half against Birmingham City back in October, he was hauled off at half-time as we were dumped out of the Worthington Cup.

The same circumstances presented themselves again on Saturday. With just 14 minutes on the clock Oyvind Leonhardsen hobbled off with an ankle injury and Davies was called into action.

This time, he made his mark in spectacular fashion. It took just 15 minutes for him to score his first senior goal for the club, showing superb technique to keep a volley down and just minutes into the second half he put the issue beyond doubt with another great strike, controlling Tim Sherwood's pass with ease before firing into the corner to make it 4-0.

Davies recalled: "I remember when I came on against Birmingham in the Worthington Cup earlier in the season, it was about the same time and I was a bit nervous.

"This time I scored the goal which settled me down because and now I've wiped those memories away hopefully. I was thinking about that when I came on but I felt better and the goal settled me down."

Davies, still just 20, is realistic enough to know he could lose his place if 'Leo' is fit enough to return against Leeds United on Saturday.

He said: "Unfortunately for Leo I got my chance because he was injured. I'm sure if he's fit he'll still be playing but I just hope I did enough to impress the manager.

"I don't want to get carried away because it can be taken away so quickly. I've done well today but there is a lot of hard work to do."

As for the game, he added: "It was an unbelievable feeling. We were 1-0 up early on, before I came on, that settled us down and the confidence grew from there.

"I've been getting appearances here and there but to come on early and get the two goals, that's why I came here - to get feelings like that.

"It was great to be involved in a win like that and to be in the hat is fantastic."
