David Buchler on Sol latest

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

David Buchler insists contract negotiations are continuing with Sol Campbell — despite reports earlier today from Spain that he had agreed a five-year deal with Barcelona.

Our executive vice-chairman said that he was delighted that Sol’s agent Sky Andrew had refuted reports in Barcelona sports daily newspaper, El Mundo Deportivo, that a deal with the Nou Camp outfit had been done. He added that talks would continue soon.

Club captain and defensive rock Sol, described by Glenn Hoddle as our ‘colossus’, becomes a free agent under the terms of the Bosman ruling this summer.

He has been able to talk to clubs on the continent since the turn of the year and European giants Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all been linked with big-money moved for the England star — as have Arsenal and Chelsea closer to home.

But David remains positive. He declared on Tuesday evening: “I read the reports that emanated from Barcelona that they had agreed terms with Sol Campbell.

“The discussions we are having with Sol Campbell and his agent are continuing.

“They have issued their own statement to say that what has been reported, that Sol has agreed terms with Barcelona, is not true and I’m grateful for that confirmation but I don’t want to say any more at this stage.

“The whole process is delicate and balanced and we need to have these discussions continuing in private.

“Time will tell on this one. It takes two people to make a contract and the club will go every inch, every mile and do whatever it can do to keep this player.”
