Dave Mackay

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

DAVE MACKAY (1959-68)

The heartbeat of our double-winning side in 1961, Dave Mackay's all-action style and never-say-die attitude was the perfect foil for half-back partner Danny Blanchflower.

Signed after starring in the 1958 World Cup for Scotland, Mackay's eye for the crunching tackle and his 'hard man' image will live with him forever and perhaps somewhat overshadowed deft skills, confidence on the ball and the knack of scoring goals - 42 in the league alone for Spurs.

Many feared Mackay's career over when he broke his leg against Manchester United in December 1963 and having missed the rest of the season, suffered the same bad break again just three games into his comeback.

But come back he did and he proudly held aloft the FA Cup at Wembley after our triumph in 1967. That made it three FA Cups and one title but injury forced him out of the 1963 European Cup Winners Cup triumph.

After 10 years at the Lane he was granted a transfer to Derby County, who he later steered to the championship in 1974-75. He also managed at Swindon, Walsall, Forest and Birmingham.
Appearances/goals: 268/42 (Lg), 33/4 (FAC), 17/5 (Eur).
