Darren: Confidence is key
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Darren Anderton says that confidence is growing within the team and he hopes they will capitalise on that against Leeds United on Saturday.
Successive wins - against Crystal Palace and Birmingham - with seven goals scored in the process have made it a happy start to 2004 and now the team are seeking a first away win of the new year, and a second of the season in the Premiership, at Elland Road.
Darren, who returned to the side against Birmingham after a three-game lay-off, explained that the wins have given the team a boost and that early strikes have helped with the momentum of the displays.
"We've bounced back after some results that we were obviously disappointed with and it is nice to be back scoring some goals," said the midfielder.
"It's right, when you go ahead you play with more confidence, but there are games where you have got to be patient and it doesn't happen that way. The results though were something that we needed and we now look forward to a big game on Saturday.
"The wins help with confidence, results breed confidence and, when you are confident, nine times out of ten, you'll play better. There are a lot young players here now and, if they can get that confidence and play in a successful team, it is a lot easier."
Leeds are the stumbling block as the team chase a hat-trick of wins, a side seeking to end a three-game losing streak. Darren has seen them during this spell and feels that results are not necessarily reflecting performances.
"I watched them against Arsenal last week and I thought the 4-1 scoreline was a bit harsh. They played well with a lot of passion and it is going to be a really difficult game up there.
"Leeds will be up for it and I'm sure their crowd will - so we will have to be strong.
"We need to get away wins to set us up for the rest of the season and a win here would be very important to us."
