Darren breaks barrier
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Glenn Hoddle says Darren Anderton has 'broken through a barrier' and we are set to get the best out of him - and hasn't ruled him out of the running for next summer's World Cup.
He explained that the coaching staff guided Darren through the opening stages of the season, mindful of managing the Achilles problems that dogged the midfielder at the back end of last season.
Glenn feels that Darren is now at a stage that he is ready to perform with his energetic style across a whole game.
"I think, psychologically, he's broken through a little bit of a barrier," said Glenn. "We had to nurse him through the first part of the season but, about two weeks ago, I said to him 'we've got to get 90 minutes out of you now'.
"His second half performances are coming and he's got a nice balance to his 90 minutes now.
"It was understandable because he was out for six months, but we're going to get even more out of Darren now I feel.
"He's playing in a role where he is in the centre of the pitch, where we can see the best of him. I think that can take us a peg or two higher."
Glenn does not rule out Darren's chances of impressing Sven Goran Eriksson ahead of England's World Cup campaign.
"He's got to keep performing well, if he plays like he has been and the England manager is there then it is his decision and a question for him, but I'm certainly pleased with Darren at the moment.
"If he keeps performing then he has a chance of getting in the squad. Football is all about timing, if he can reproduce this at the end of the season when the squad is going to be picked I'm sure he will be there or thereabouts."
Glenn also gave an update on the fitness of Stephen Carr, saying that he expects the flying full-back to return to fitness around the festive period.
"It will be Christmas before he is back. The good news is that the surgeon identified the two problems that were there, has nullified it and he is now on his way.
"He is cycling, building up his rehab, so I don't think there is any long term problems."
