Danny's pride at Three Lions call-up

Danny Rose says he’s “over the moon” after earning his first call-up to the senior England national team.

Our 24-year-old left-back was named in the Three Lions’ 22-man squad along with Andros Towsend for their forthcoming friendly against Norway and subsequent Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland by manager Roy Hodgson on Thursday after a flying start to the season in a Spurs shirt.

And while he’s had plenty of congratulatory messages heading his way since the squad was announced, Danny admitted he hasn’t quite become accustomed to his new status as a senior international yet!

“I’m over the moon and it’s a great achievement for me, especially considering where I started off from and where I’m at now,” said the Doncaster-born full-back, who has previously been capped 29 times for England Under-21s.

“I’ve spoken to all my family and all my close friends and they’re all thrilled. I don’t think it will properly sink in for me, though, until after our game against Liverpool on Sunday when I’ll be driving to meet up with everyone.”

Having started our opening two Premier League fixtures against West Ham United and Queens Park Rangers, Danny revealed his delight at receiving recognition from international bosses so soon after the summer break.

“I’ve been taking one game at a time and hoping I can keep my place within the Tottenham team because obviously there’s competition for places,” he continued. “The manager told me that he believed I could get an England call-up one day but I never thought it would come so soon.

“Obviously I’ve played at Under-21 level but that’s a different kettle of fish compared to the seniors so I’m not sure if the experience of playing for the Under-21s will help me. I hope it can, though, because it’s a massive achievement for anyone and I hope I can do well.”
