Danny's praise for Aaron

02 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Danny Rose has paid tribute to the influence of Aaron Lennon after he followed in the winger’s footsteps from Leeds to the Lane as a teenager in 2007.

Two years earlier, Aaron, then 18, joined us from Elland Road and went on to make over 300 appearances, winning the League Cup in 2008 and making it into England’s World Cup squads in 2006 and 2010 before moving to Everton this summer.

Danny was 17 when he first stepped out at Spurs Lodge and after loan spells at the likes of Bristol City and Sunderland, nailed down a regular place in the squad in the 20143-14 season – he’s now racked up 106 appearances for us.

Now the pair could come face to face for the first time as we travel to Goodison Park on Sunday.

“For the first four or five years I was here he was my closest friend,” said Danny. “He treated me like family when I first came to Tottenham and I owe pretty much everything that I’ve achieved here to him.

“He helped me settle in, gave me great advice and people who know Aaron will tell you that once you are in his circle, he will do everything to help you and I’m grateful to him.

“It wasn’t really on-field, it was more off the pitch where he gave me advice, stuff that people don’t know about and don’t see.

“To maybe play against him now will be a strange feeling but we’ve all got a job to do on the pitch and it doesn’t matter who we’re playing against, I just want the same outcome and that’s for us to get three points every game.

“I’m looking forward to it though, he was brilliant to me.”
