Danny ready for Benfica challenge

Thu 20 March 2014, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Danny Rose says he relishes playing against some of Europe’s elite sides in the Europa League – and that’s one of the things driving him to help turn our tie against Benfica on its head.

Danny was a second half substitute in last week’s 3-1 reverse in the first leg of our round of 16 clash at White Hart Lane.

And with the odds seemingly against us as we prepare to take on the in-form Portuguese league leaders at Estadio da Luz tonight, Danny remains hopeful that we can complete what would surely be one of our greatest all-time European comebacks.

“It’s a great competition to be a part of, especially when the Champions League teams come into it,” said the left-back.

“You find yourself playing some great teams so we’re going to Benfica determined to try and do our best.”

Three goals are a minimum requirement for us in tonight’s second leg if we’re to have any chance of advancing to the last eight of the competition.

But Danny is refusing to let the prospect of an uphill battle dampen his determination and when asked if he believes we can complete a turnaround, he replied: “I think there is a chance.”

“Benfica are a good side,” he added. “They outplayed us last week. We’re going to have to go there, try our best and hopefully we won’t let the travelling fans down.”
