D-Day for Christian's Denmark

07 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

It's 'all or nothing' for Christian Eriksen's hopes of qualifying automatically for the Euro 2016 finals this evening (Thursday, October 8).

Christian's Denmark team face a make-or-break qualifying match against Ronaldo and Portugal in Braga.

Portugal top the five-team Group I with Denmark three points behind and Albania a further point adrift in third.

However, Denmark have played a game less and whether or not they topple Portugal, could be leapfrogged by Albania, who complete their qualification against Armenia and Serbia.

A place in the play-offs is secured but Christian - pictured above when the teams met in Denmark back in October, 2014, a match Portugal won 1-0 - would naturally love to finish ahead of Albania to progress directly to next summer's finals in France.

Christian jetted straight off to Denmark after his free-kick double secured a point at Swansea on Sunday and he knows exactly what's on the line.

"It’s a really important game as they all are in qualification," he said. "But now it’s all or nothing really. We need to go there and get a result and be lucky with Albania as well.

"Everyone wants to be on the biggest stage. We have a young team with experienced players, so a strong group and everyone wants to get to the finals."

The final round of Euro 2017 qualifiers take place between October 8-13. The winners, runner-ups and best third-placed team of the nine qualifying groups join hosts France in the finals. The remaining eight third-placed teams meet in play-offs for the final four places.
