The Spurs Ladies U10s team were special guests at Spurs Lodge this week to watch training and cheer on the first team at they prepared for the derby against Arsenal on Saturday.Proudly carrying their first piece of silverware of the season, the Chairman’s Cup from the Home Counties Girls Football League, the girls, along with their coach Glenn Weaver, watched training before meeting the squad who signed autographs and posed for photos.
The Spurs Ladies U10s are one of eleven teams the ladies regularly field and are coming to the end of an astonishing season. With only six games to go, they lie third in their league and if they continue their good form to win the remaining games they will win the league. Given their amazing goal-scoring record of an impressive 80 goals in 16 games – and that their goalkeeper only conceded one goal in the winning cup-run – few would bet against the Spurs Ladies U10 team going all the way to collect their second piece of silverware of the year.
The Spurs Ladies play at the Frederick Knight Sports Ground, just 800 yards from the stadium and lots of girls come from the local area. This year is already proving to be a bounty season for them. As well as the U10’s success, the U12s have won London Cup and the reserves have won their league already.
Watching the seniors train, the girls watched on, looking to pick up tips from the professionals and from Martin and his coaching team. “Watching football at this level can only help and improve a team,” coach Glenn Weaver said. “The touch and movement off the ball in close-quarter training is amazing and should give the team an idea of what they have to live up to! This will provide the girls with a great boost for the run in we have until the end of the season.”
