Blackburn 2-1 Spurs
Cardiff 2002

Right from the outset you could always tell this wasnt going to be our day, we were sat in the unlucky stand against an in form striker which Hod had supposedly critisised!

I made my way up at around 12pm on Saturday afternoon in a bid to avoid all the traffic, we were staying over the night at a travel in in chippenham about an hour and a quarter away from Cardiff (that was a close as we could get!!!). I had travelled up with 2 fellow Jsm's, Sean and Chris, we had little sleep due to the excitement of the day that followed - the only down point was seeing arsenal win 4-1 on the tele!! We hadn't even considered losing, we just couldnt see it happening!

We woke up the next mornin nice and early about 8 had breakfast and left for Cardiff. All we could see on the motorway was spurs, spurs, spurs. We arrived in Cardiff around 9:30, and already there was quite a crowd of spurs around. It was pouring with rain and we had too find something to do and shelter! It was getting closer to kick off and we were getting more nervous, I had a funny feeling about this game!

The turnstiles opened at 1pm and we all flooded in, best seats in the house second tier in the west stand corner! It was a quality Stadium, best I've ever been in (beats the nou camp!). Roof closed and all! As it built up I was feeling more and more nervous! The kick off came round after the The spurs fans had beaten stockport!

It was 3pm the players were out after spectacular opening ceromony, the national anthem was respected while Ziege and Poyet looked confused!

The kick off came round and Spurs started quality the passing was superb we should have taken an early lead through Ferdinand as he and Ziege looked Spurs most lively players. Then disaster struck, Jansen scored a goal for Blackburn slipped through Sullivan's legs, we were still confident though!

We made the best possible comeback, all out attack we were pushing them further and further back, without Teddy really making any impact, he was giving the ball away! Then Les broke into the Blackburn box calmy with the outside of his boot placed it across to Ziege who slotted home! Wahey we erupted jumping around hugging everybody! The atmosphere was great!

The next hour passed with Spurs creating all the chances but failing to convert, then it turned for the worst after some defensive hesitation from Ledley the King, Andy Cole struck.

We continued to pile on the pressure, chance after chance was missed, notaby Les missed two headers that were easier to score. Nothing was getting past Friedel he was superb!

Then in the 88th minute the most controversial point of the game came, Teddy was hauled down in the box for a blatant penalty. I had one of the best views it was right in front of me! I couldn't believe it wasn't given! I went mad! Then in the last minute Les missed an easy 6 yard header, it just wasn't our day!

All the players were out on the pitch devastated, Ledley especially, he had a solid game apart from the crucial mistake, Thatcher and Perry were our best players but the best player on the park was Friedel, tells a story in itself! There was no sign of a certain mr Rebrov!

On the day the better team probably won but we were very unlucky! This lead to a miserable 140 mile journey back to Hertford! Not much was said in the car apart from about the performance, and the referee! We arrived home at around 10! Drowned my sorrows in my sleep.

Oh well, I'll be back there when we beat arsenal in the final!

Man Of The Match: Brad Friedel
