CSKA 0-1 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction
27 September 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino believes victory against CSKA Moscow in Russia will help the team ‘feel free’ in the Champions League.
Heung-Min Son maintained his purple patch in front of goal with his fifth goal of the campaign - five in three away games - as we secured an important 1-0 victory in the Champions League.
The heat was on after losing our first match in Group E against Monaco at Wembley a fortnight ago. However, the three points now lift us over Bayer Leverkusen into second after Bayer and Monaco played out a 1-1 draw in France. We play Bayer next in Germany in MD3 on October 18.
“The victory is very important for us,” said Mauricio. “It was the first victory in the Champions League and it’s always important to get the first to feel more free and try to do what we know to do - to play football, feel free and try to win games.
“I'm very pleased, the performance was good, the game was tough, it's always difficult to play in Moscow but I think we fully deserved the victory.
“We were patient because they are very well organised and it was difficult to penetrate them but we had the possession and managed the game in the way that we wanted to play.
“Maybe we had a lack of being clinical like on another day but I think it's always difficult to play in the Champions League and in the end the victory is important for us.”
Mauricio was quick to praise the fans who made the trip to Moscow. “It was fantastic to have 200 people here supporting us. It was a very difficult trip for them and I want to recognise them and say thank you one more time because they were superb with their energy and support.”
