Crucial match for Filip in U17 World Cup

23 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Our young midfielder Filip Lesniak faces a crucial match at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates today.

The central midfielder, a regular for our successful Under-18s side, looks set to be part of the Slovakia team to take on the tournament hosts in Abu Dhabi in a must-win clash later.

Neither side have yet won in Group A – Filip played the full game as his nation lost 6-1 to Brazil in last Thursday’s opener, before again featuring for the entirety on Sunday as Slovakia recovered from a 1-0 half-time deficit to draw 2-2 against Honduras.

But Slovakia know a win today will give them a chance of qualifying for the latter stages of the tournament, depending on other results.

Brazil have already secured their passage to the next stage through Group A, while Italy have qualified for the Round of 16 through Group B.

We wish Filip well ahead of the match.
