Crash hits Dolby hard in Zolder

Craig Dolby was the innocent victim of a first lap tangle in the second race in Belgium in the latest round of Superleague Formula at the weekend, an incident which forced him to retire from the race and denied him a chance to compete in the Super Final at Zolder.

That meant he picked up no points at all from race two or the Super Final and could only sit and watch as AC Milan leap-frogged over Tottenham Hotspur into top spot in the overall rankings of the championship.

It had started fairly well for the Spurs team and Dolby as he qualified on the third row of the grid for race one at the famous Belgian circuit and was always in contention throughout, eventually finishing fifth, just over eight seconds behind race winner Olympiakos.

With the reverse grid for race two, Dolby was towards the rear and was involved in an incident which could have major ramifications on the championship. Right at the start of the race, a tangle between James Walker (Liverpool) and Marcos Martinez (Sevilla) ended with Walker's touch from behind on the Spaniard's car sending Martinez lurching into Dolby's, with the Brit losing his front wing, which folded under his car sending him tobogganing into the wall and retirement.

It was a major disappointment for Craig, who only scored 32 points from the whole weekend and now sits in second place overall, although only eight points adrift of Milan.

The series now comes back to England and Brands Hatch on the weekend of July 31/August 1!

Race one - 1. Olympiakos, 2. Anderlecht, 3. Corinthians, 5. Tottenham Hotspur.

Race two - 1. AS Roma, 2. Flamengo, 3. Galatasaray, 17. Tottenham Hotspur.

Overall - 1 AC Milan 410, 2 SPURS 402, 3 Anderlecht 365, 4 Basel 360, 5 Olympiacos 351.
