Community Cup

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Lee Ryan, from the UK’s favourite boy band Blue, struck for London’s youth community as he joined forces with The GO Partnership, Kandu Arts and Cup Promotions for The Community Cup 2004 at White Hart Lane.

Lee was assisted by his band member and big Spurs fan Antony Costa in the event, part of the ‘Choices for Change’ youth inclusion programme, an inspired community initiative developed by Camden Borough’s GO and Kandu Arts for Sustainable Development.

Lee, a patron of national charitable organisation Kandu, supported the three-week regeneration programme throughout December by contributing to workshops and helping to develop the creative skills of young people from urban, deprived communities within the London Boroughs.

Lee’s commitment to this project has been truly inspirational and he is proud to be part of a community initiative which provides such a supportive environment for young people to explore their issues and find solutions through the arts. Part of this process is providing the participants with opportunities to help them reach their full potential and the football tournament will provide an opportunity for the hard working ‘Choices for Change’ community to show off their skills at White Hart Lane.

‘Choices’ has attracted support from Cup Promotions, best known for their high profile celebrity events such as the music industry football competition - The Soccer Sixes. The Community Cup was launched at Lovefootball in 2003 and have aligned with ‘Choices’ to stage this years Community Cup as a platform for recognizing and promoting effective community through integration.

Cup Promotions are generously continuing to support such projects by providing sponsorship and in this case securing White Hart Lane for this one day pan-London event.

Londoner Lee Ryan, who was brought up in an estate in South London, played in The Kandu Krew team. As someone who got that all important break in the music industry, Lee is committed to raising the profile of young people's plight in difficult inner-city environments.

Lee is also contributing to the ‘Choice for Change’ programme by involving the participants in his new film project ‘Changes’. He started writing this film when he was just 15 and is now focusing on making his directorial debut when ‘Changes’ goes into production early next year. The film which is influenced by his experience growing up in London will be developed with Kandu Arts who have worked with the likes of Damon Albarn and Ray Winstone on award winning arts projects. Lee will be providing opportunities for production and acting roles by casting from the youth teams who have been successfully integrated into the project by The Go Partnership and Kandu Arts for Sustainable Development.

After 15 exciting games between the 3 youth teams (Nubian FC, Go Future United and Go All Stars), the Met Police London team (Bobbies in Blue), The GO Partnership team (Go Rangers) and the Celebrity / Kandu team (Kandu Krew) the final was played between 2 youth teams: Go Future Utd and Go All Stars. The winner was Go Future Utd winning 2-1!!
