Common sense the key

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Glenn Hoddle believes common sense should have prevailed following Christian Ziege's dismissal against Manchester City.

The German wing-back received two yellow cards from referee Jeff Winter for the same offence - kicking the ball away - in our thrilling 3-2 win at Maine Road.

Boss Glenn reasoned: "Both parties could have showed a bit of common sense in the second situation.

"The referee has to show common sense and Christian has to be sensible as well. Then it doesn't happen.

"It's all in the heat of the moment. He hasn't kicked the ball away miles and it's a simple little thing, just leaving the ball there, not knocking it away trying to waste time."

Asked if Christian should have known better, Glenn responded: "Human nature takes over. I didn't think it warranted a sending off.

"Christian had a good game for us so it was disappointing but more importantly for us, we've got a valuable three points.

"After 20, 25 minutes of the second half we could have had a hatful. We've hit them on the break, every corner looked dangerous and I felt we should have gone three or four up.

"Then, in the last few minutes hanging on, you're thinking 'is this going to go against us?' but thankfully we weathered the storm."
