Colin's faith in youth

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Colin Calderwood's young reserve side take the field at Stevenage on Monday evening against Southampton with a challenge from the coach.

Goran Bunjevcevic and John Piercy provide the only significant experience, but Colin says the youngsters have got to prove they are capable of adding to our points tally.

"We're going with the majority of the under-19 team tonight," said Colin. "A little bit similar to the Ipswich game but probably even younger.

"The priority is the first team, as always, and they've got a semi-final and everyone is required. So we go in against Southampton, but they've got a game on Wednesday so I don't know what team they'll have out.

"There is a few of them who have played two or three games now and they've done alright to a point, but it is coming to the stage where they have got to do better and start picking results up and that's what we're looking for tonight."

Colin explains that with the hectic first team schedule at the moment, good results could lead to extended runs in the side for an exciting crop of youngsters including Paul O'Donoghue, Ben Bowditch and John Sutton.

"I spoke to them this morning and said there is an opportunity there for them, and with the way the fixtures are for the first team there will be probably be more opportunities for them between now and certainly the end of January.

"I don't want it to be just a promotion or a little bit of excitement for them - I want them to come and win the games.

"When you go in with experienced players, first and foremost is for them to have their 90 minutes and come out injury free. When it's these young players we're expecting results a bit more than performances.

"It's a good situation for the club and certainly the Academy to see the boys progressing as a group. It's a good opportunity, we give them the field to play on, we give them a certain amount of guidance and then it's up to them."
