Colin Calderwood is counting down the days to the start of the reserve team’s competitive season.
Our second string continued preparations for the big kick-off in the FA Premier Reserve League at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Charlton on Wednesday.
“We lost 3-0,” revealed Colin. “It was a good exercise from different points of view.
“One or two boys needed 90 minutes who are a bit further forward towards the first team but from my point of view it was another opportunity for the young boys who the manager hasn’t seen that much.
“The result was disappointing, some aspects of our play were disappointing, but you always have to have the opportunity, especially for the younger ones, to perform in front of the rest of the coaching staff.
“It was a benefit to them in some ways but Charlton won the game and were better than us.”
Colin said he couldn’t wait for the ‘proper’ games to begin.
“It is difficult when you’ve just had games at the training ground,” he said. “It’s not even the same as going to a ground in the evening for a reserve match.
“But those games are there for a purpose and as long as players get what they need out of them it will be a benefit.
“From a coaches point of view we would like to have not conceded the goals we conceded. There is a lot of work for me to think about and that is for me to work at during the season.
“But I’m thoroughly enjoying it and I’m looking forward to the proper league games starting.”
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
