Club takes stance on missiles

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Safety officer Sue Tilling has outlined new measures to combat the threat of fans throwing missiles at the Lane.

We believe we are the first club to introduce these hard line policies.

Sue said: "We've banned the sale of beer in plastic bottles, doubled the number of CCTV cameras at the ground and increased the number of stewards.

"In fact, for the forthcoming Chelsea semi-final, we have banned the sale of all bottled refreshments from our catering outlets.

"We've also asked fans to identify missle throwers immediately and we will ban for life fans caught doing so."

Sue urged supporters to recall Glenn Hoddle's recent appeal when the boss, referring to a bottle throwing incident, said: "If you see anything like this happening, please do us all a favour and report it."

She reitterated: "I would ask them to tell stewards immediately if they see any items thrown towards the playing area."

Vice-chairman David Buchler commented: "We would ask every decent fan to support the club in its aims and help us stamp out this kind of thing.

"This small hooligan element is doing us no good at all and is tarnishing our name. We simply won't let that happen. We have had enough."

Sue concluded: "We will continue to work closely with the police to ensure that we maintain the family atmposhere at the Lane we are all proud of."
