Club’s sixth form programme rolls out to students at HRC
13 July 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
The Club and Hertfordshire Regional College have formed a partnership that will see the delivery of a new sixth form programme for its students, combining academic and sporting qualifications.
This is the second announcement of its kind in less than a month – in early July, the Club’s Global Coaching team launched a similar partnership with UCL.
Students at the college’s Broxbourne campus in Hertfordshire can gain an academic qualification in BTEC Sport Level 3 (equivalent to three A-levels), FA Level 2 Coaching Certificates, and receive daily football training from three members of our Global Coaching team based full-time at HRC.
Those 16 to 18-year-olds enrolled on the course will also benefit from allocated use of the Club’s training facilities at Hotspur Way in Enfield, opportunities to play against selected UK and international teams in league and cup competitions, a chance to get first aid and child protection qualifications and get exclusive access to White Hart Lane during presentation evenings.
The vision of the programme is to motivate and inspire students to aspire to further education, combining a passion for football and developing their skills and understanding of the game.
Grant Cornwell MBE, Head of Tottenham Hotspur Global Coaching, said: “Our work with local colleges continues to develop and we’re excited to be announcing our new partnership with HRC – the second sixth form programme we’ve launched this month.
“We know only too well how football can be used to engage and in some cases re-engage young people into education and we’re proud to have witnessed a number of students on our Global Coaching programme go on to successfully build careers within the sports industry.
“With the support of our coaches and teaching staff at our partner colleges, these courses offer a wealth of opportunities for 16 to 18-year-olds and we look forward to seeing the first year’s intake at HRC progress over the coming months.”
Desdra Kingdon, Interim Chief Executive and Principal at Hertford Regional College, said: “We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Tottenham Hotspur. We see this as a great new opportunity to strengthen and develop our growing football academy. Learners will study recognised BTEC qualifications alongside football training under the supervision of Tottenham’s Global Coaching team, giving them a unique opportunity to develop their academic, communication, teamwork and employability skills. The programme will be delivered in professional surroundings and within a culture of high expectations and standards."
