Club’s commitment to equality rewarded by Kick It Out

Just before kick-off at Sunday’s game, our nominated fixture supporting Kick It Out, we were presented with the intermediate level of The Equality Standard for Professional Football Clubs by Kick It Out.

Ledley King accepted the award on behalf of the Club, in recognition of the efforts carried out at Tottenham Hotspur to combat discrimination.

The Equality Standard is a framework to encourage and support the development of equality practices and policies at professional clubs,  across England and Wales and highlights six key areas of diversity; race, religion, age, gender, disability and sexual orientation.

The Club has been working alongside Kick It Out to deliver evidence against a series of objectives that ensure action in all areas of operation; from our complaints reporting policy and the provision of a disability access audit to the training of staff and employee personal development.

The Standard looks at how the Club recruits employees and young players fairly, as well as the delivery of activities and projects to disadvantaged groups in the community, for which the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has been pivotal.

Roisin Wood, Director of Kick It Out, said: “Kick It Out is delighted to award the Intermediate Level of its Equality Standard to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Tottenham Hotspur continues to develop and enhance its policies and procedures relating to discrimination, and promotes equality and diversity throughout the Club.

“The importance the Club places on engaging with its local community, especially through the activities and projects undertaken by Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, is an example for all. Kick It Out looks forward to continuing its close working relationship with Tottenham Hotspur and supporting the Club’s work throughout all areas of equality moving forward.”
