Club responds to misleading press
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
There has been much made in today’s press about comments David Pleat is alleged to have made in an article in the Australian Sydney Sun Herald.
At a press conference at Spurs Lodge two weeks ago David happened to list types of individuals who have applied for the manager position.
The Australian Sydney Sun Herald has subsequently fabricated a second quote whereby David apparently said: "None of the above would do much worse than Glenn."
This quote is blatantly and totally false - however, notwithstanding this, it has been repeated in the British press. The Club shall be writing to the Herald demanding an apology on behalf of David Pleat and, should this not be forthcoming, the matter will be put in the hands of our lawyers.
Daniel Levy, Chairman, had the following to say: "I very rarely feel the need to respond to nonsense that appears in the media, but in this instance I think it is time to put the record straight once and for all. During Glenn’s time as manager at this Club David was often his strongest supporter in the Boardroom and this has been documented. Since Glenn’s departure David has not, in any way, sought to pass critical comment on Glenn.
"David and Glenn spoke recently and both of them wish to see an end to this type of meddling and stirring by the press."
