Club providing employment opportunities during National Apprenticeship Week

The Club will be opening its doors to hundreds of local jobseekers and potential employers at an Apprenticeships Fair on Wednesday (March 8) during National Apprenticeship Week.

White Hart Lane will play host to a variety of employers from a wide range of companies offering live apprenticeship opportunities between 12noon – 6pm.

These include the Bank of England, BT and Hilton Hotels, as well as a number of contractors currently involved with the construction of our new stadium development.

The project continues to drive the regeneration of Tottenham, as well as all job opportunities in the local area through a partnership between the Club, Haringey Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.

Once complete, the development will support around 3,500 jobs, with £293 million pumped into the local economy each year, an increase of 1,700 new jobs and £166 million local spending a year – an enormous impact for an area in real need of new jobs and more economic activity.

To date, more than 200 apprenticeships have been created as a direct result of the new stadium development, and next month the Government will bring into effect a new Apprenticeship Levy aimed at delivering a target of three million apprentices nationally by 2020.

“We are proud to have a proven track record in delivering apprenticeships across a range of sectors and this week will offer a unique chance for hundreds of local residents to interact with major employers.”

The 10th National Apprenticeship Week will bring together employers and apprentices from across England to celebrate the success of apprenticeships over the last decade and will seek to encourage even more people to choose apprenticeships as a fast-track to a great career.

An apprenticeship provides an alternative route into higher education, with a work-based learning programme enabling students to ‘earn while you learn’, leading to practical experience and a nationally recognised qualification relevant to a chosen profession.

Case study

One young person within the Club’s local community to have benefitted from the employment opportunities delivered through the new stadium development is Mason Mustafa.

The 17-year-old recently earned an apprenticeship with Morrisroe, a building contractor on the stadium construction site, a short walk from his home in Northumberland Park.

He said: “This is an extremely exciting opportunity for me. I had been looking for opportunities within the construction industry for quite some time and was able to find one right on my doorstep.

“I would advise any young person in my position to take an apprenticeship as it provides a great chance of gaining employment, especially in an area like Tottenham that has long been in need of opportunities like this.”
