Club launches South Africa t-shirt

The Club has launched an exclusive Spurs World Cup t-shirt in partnership with SOS Children, our global charity partner.

The Club has launched an exclusive Spurs World Cup t-shirt in partnership with SOS Children, our global charity partner.

With the possibility of 11 players competing for World Cup glory this summer with England, Brazil, Cameroon, Honduras and Mexico it promises to be an exciting tournament for players and fans.

The 'Spurs in South Africa' themed World Cup t-shirt is only available in Tottenham Hotspur stores and via Spurs online, with all profits from sales going towards the Club's work with SOS Children.

The Club has had a long-term relationship with SOS Children in South Africa having built an orphan house in Rustenburg, where England will be based during the World Cup.

The 'Spurs House', which is uniquely funded by monies received from players' fines, now provides orphaned children with a family and mother.

In February this year the entire first team and management signed up to sponsor an SOS orphan for World Orphan Week.

Jermain Defoe, one of the Club's World Cup hopefuls, sponsored a three-year-old orphan in Rustenburg and admitted he couldn't imagine life without a family.

"I just can't imagine growing up without my mum and my grandparents," he said. "I honestly don't know how I would have coped. They gave me so much love, help and so many opportunities and always told me to appreciate how lucky I was. And I have certainly been lucky in life.

"I always wanted to be a footballer and here I am living the dream.

"I have been blessed and have a great life but I also think it is important to give something back and to realise that, for many people, it is hard out there, especially for these children in South Africa who are struggling and suffering. It is so difficult for them and so easy for us to forget about them. There are people really struggling and we should all do what we can to help."

SOS Children has been the Club's global charity partner since 2007. Over 78,000 orphaned and abandoned children are cared for by SOS mothers in clusters of family homes in more than 500 Children's Villages in 124 countries worldwide.

Each t-shirt will cost £10 and can be ordered online - all profits will be donated to SOS Children.
