Clive's reserve review

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Clive Allen runs the rule over five more players as he continues to assess how our reserve squad performed last season.

Coach Clive's men won six games on the trot in October and November and lost successive matches only once on our way to fifth place in the Barclays Reserve League South.

Throughout this week, Clive will give his views on how 25 of the squad shaped up last term.

Spase Dilevski (19 appearaces, 1 goal)
Clive Allen: "He came from furthest afield and it was always a situation that we were giving him the opportunity to come and play in England. I thought he had a terrific attitude, never a moan and always applied himself in the right way. He’s gone back to Australia and I can see him doing well in the new Australian League that will start up. I hope he’s benefited from the experience and I have to say he was a pleasure to have in the group."

Mounir El Hamdaoui (6 apps, 2 goals)
Clive: "I think he’s technically very good and again, he’s adjusting having come from senior football in Holland. It’s sometimes difficult to adjust and I think he found it difficult at the start. I always feel players are a good judge of new players coming in, they work them out quickly and our lads respected the ability he has straight away. He has the potential to score goals and next season will be an important one for him."

Nicky Eyre (7 apps)
Clive: "It was always difficult for Nicky. At one point he went from being an Academy player on the Saturday and with injuries to goalkeepers, on the bench for the first team. The emotions he must have gone through throughout the season must have been incredible. The one thing I would say about the group is the attitude was right and Nicky was spot on. Perhaps he hasn’t made the progress people expected but sometimes with players going away from clubs like ours it gives them the kick-start to move forward. I never feel being released from here is the end of the road and we’re not saying to them that they are not good enough, what we’re saying is perhaps they haven’t reached the level we require for our first team — that’s where we’ve got to judge people. You can see potential in all the lads and Nicky, with his attitude and ability, can move on his his career."

Marton Fulop (9 apps)
Clive: "Each one of the keepers has been spot on for me. That right attitude from the goalkeeper instills confidence in the defence and we need that with personel changing regularly. You need to rely on the keeper. Marton had his chance, went on loan to Chesterfield, came back and when these lads return from loans they have an understanding of what’s required. Marton was a perfect example of that."

Emil Hallfredsson (9 apps, 1 goal)
Clive: "An interesting character! It’s a whole new world for Emil and not just about playing football. It’s such a big culture shock for him but he’s strong, fit and energetic, absolutely first class every day. He puts everything into every training session. He needs to progress, no doubt about it and he knows that and there is no reason why he shouldn’t."
