Clive's reserve review

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Clive Allen's rundown of how his players performed last season continues with Phil Ifil, Johnnie Jackson and Stephen Kelly under the spotlight.

Coach Clive's men won six games on the trot in October and November and lost successive matches only once on our way to fifth place in the Barclays Reserve League South.

Throughout this week, Clive will give his views on how 25 of the squad shaped up last term.

Phil Ifil (15 appearances)
Clive Allen: "He played first team football very early, perhaps earlier than anyone expected. You have to realise how difficult it is for a young player who has played against Liverpool and Newcastle to come back into the reserve group and the Academy and for Phil, it’s a real test for him in terms of how he takes his game forward. He has a reputation now because he’s played for Spurs at a very early age. Mentally he has to be very strong and he has to maintain that desire to improve and go forward. He certainly has massive potential."

Johnnie Jackson (12 apps, 2 goals)
Clive: "He had games in the first team and then was out the first team, went out on loan and the reports we’ve got from his time out on loan are first class. His attitude on loan was great and he was one of our most consistent performers. He’s a real character, chirpy, good in the group and I think he did well last season."

Stephen Kelly (7 apps)
Clive: "He got into the first team and took the form he showed in the reserve team group with him. You know what you are going to get with Steo. He’s a tremendous athlete with a fantastic attitude in terms of how he concentrates, how he goes about his job and I feel he progressed in the first team games he played. He’s got more confidence and deserves a pat on the back. I feel he’s established himself as first team squad player."

David Limbersky (13 apps, 1 goal)
Clive: "I felt at the beginning that he would find it difficult to adjust to reserve team football and the English way of playing. He found it physical and to a degree he was shocked by it at the start. He came to terms with it at the end and will be better for the whole experience of being at the club. He’s gone back home now and I feel he’ll be a better player for it."

Michael Malcolm (13 apps, 1 goal)
Clive: "A frustrating season for Michael because chances were limited although when he came in at the end of the season he did very well. He showed some of the potential he had but it was too late for him. There is no reason why he can’t go away and progress his career, which I think he’s capable of doing."
