Clive not happy
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Clive Allen suspects his team slipped into cruise control after seizing a two-goal initiative early in the reserve encounter against Ipswich Town on Monday evening.
Edson Silva Sousa opening the scoring against a young Ipswich side on just two minutes, with Jamie Slabber doubling the advantage with 22 minutes on the clock. It was a failure to really boss the game after this point that did not please the Development Coach when he reflected on events post-match.
"It was a hard-fought victory, I've got to say that," considered Clive after the match. "It was a game where we haven't reached the level we've reached before in terms of our possession and passing, which was disappointing at times.
"I thought they made it very difficult for us and, again, we've come up against a young, enthusiastic side who really tested us.
"The disappointing thing for me was the way we lost our way in the second half, the game got very frenetic and we weren't able to control it. We couldn't get to grips with it in the way we would have liked with a 2-0 cushion.
"I think we did slip into cruise control, you get into that situation and we looking a bit comfortable about it all as if it was going to be easy. As I said after, there is no game that is easy at youth, reserve or Premiership level. Winning games easily is never going to happen and I think they accepted that."
However, it is now seven wins from eight games for Clive's boys and he reasoned that his team are sampling differing methods of victory.
"You have to look at it and say the lads are winning games in different ways at the moment. For their learning that is very important and I have described it as an ugly victory - we haven't played well, but we've won.
"We've kept that winning habit and I obviously want to continue that as it is a good feeling. I think they know we've not produced what we're capable of."
