Clive knows the feeling

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

From personal experience, Clive Allen can understand the relief felt by Jamie Slabber when he netted his first goal for Spurs since January in the 2-0 reserve win over Ipswich this week.

The 19-year old netted our second goal of night at Stevenage in the second of his comeback games following three months out with a shoulder injury. As a once prolific striker himself, Clive is well aware that a weight has now been lifted off the shoulders of the young striker.

"Absolutely, it was very unfortunate the way he picked up the injury in the first place and that dragged on when you want to be fit and raring to go at the beginning of the season," reflected the Development Coach. "So it has been tough for him.

"He's worked very hard and it is good to see him back. He has come back into two very physical games and I think that will stand him in good stead in the coming weeks.

"The most important thing is he is off the mark. As I know myself, for any striker it is a big relief. I thought he worked very hard for us, it was difficult and he had to do things that sometimes go unnoticed. His workrate was very, very good."

With the second string in fine form with seven wins in their last eight games, Clive acknowledges the challenge faced by Jamie to continue his scoring exploits.

"We have got players scoring goals, Lee Barnard has gone off on loan having scored regularly, Edson in finding the net and now I hope Jamie is staking a claim.

"Unfortunately at times, strikers are judged on goals and goals alone. I think it will please Jamie now that he is off the mark. His overall game was stronger, which it needs to be with coming back after injury."
