Clive: I couldn't sleep
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Clive Allen has seen it all as a player - but admitted to a few nerves on his first day as a coach at Spurs Lodge.
Always remembered for his 49 goals in the fantastic 1986-87 season, Clive returned to the club in a coaching capacity yesterday.
"I haven't slept for two nights," joked Clive after training. "I felt very nervous and as I said to my wife, if I was going back to the club as a player I wouldn't have any fears at all because I knew what I was capable of.
"Chris and David smoothed the way for me and the lads gave me a great reception out there. I was delighted with how it went.
"That's the first day out of the way and I'm looking to get stuck in now."
The opportunity arose after Colin Calderwood departed last week to take the manager's post at Northampton Town.
Clive revealed: "David called me at the end of last week to tell me that Colin was leaving to go to Northampton and there was a situation where there were a number of professionals on the staff but the club was short of coaches.
"He knew that I wanted to get into coaching. I've coached various levels of the England youth team and he said he could see an opportunity here for me.
"I jumped at the chance. It's very exciting and I'm full of enthusiasm for it and it's fantastic to be back.
"I know a lot of the people here and it's the right kind of atmosphere.
"In may ways it's like you've never been away, you walk in and the memories come flooding back.
"I worked with the younger pros and I was very impressed. There is a lot of talent out there. I've got the opportunity to work with them and hopefully we'll have a good relationship. All in all, it's very exciting."
