Clint's Guzan goal

Clint Dempsey will find a familiar face between him and goal when we take on Villa on Sunday – and he would love to score past his American compatriot Brad Guzan at the Lane.

Guzan replaced Shay Given for Villa’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle on September 2 and has worn the goalkeeper’s jersey since then.

Capped 20 times by the USA, Guzan made his name in the MLS with Chicago Fire and Chivas USA before joining Villa – as Brad Friedel’s number two – in 2008.

Now he’s number one and set to face Clint, who would love to follow his first Spurs goal – the winner at Old Trafford last week – with his first at the Lane.

Brad Guzan

“It’s good to see Brad get more starts and more minutes,” said Clint, who now has 89 USA caps to his name.

“He did really well when he was in the MLS and in the past few seasons he’s had to be the back-up.

“Now he’s trying to break through and hopefully he can because he’s a goalkeeper with real quality, he’s learned under Brad Friedel and I wish him the best.”

Naturally, that doesn’t extend to Sunday. “It doesn’t matter who I play, I’d like to score past them. It could be my mum and I’d want to score!” he added.
