Clint Dempsey agrees with Hugo Lloris that Sunday's win against City can now inspire us in the race for a place in the top four of the Premier League.
The USA hitman kick-started a thrilling spell of three goals in seven minutes with the equaliser as we eventually ran out 3-1 winners against last season's champions.
The priceless three-point haul means we go into this weekend's action sitting fifth in the table, just a point adrift of Chelsea in fourth and two behind third-placed Arsenal, but with a game in hand on the Gunners.
The final five matches begin at Wigan on Saturday followed by Southampton at home, Chelsea at the Bridge, a trip to Stoke and finally Sunderland at the Lane on May 19.
Hugo said the win against City 'will give us the power to finish strongly' and Clint feels we can take that confidence to the DW Stadium.
"It was a great spell to play in," reflected Clint on the three-goal salvo. "Three different players scored, that gives confidence to the team and hopefully the result will give us that push for the final five matches of the season as we try to get into the top four.
"The result gives us a lift and hopefully we’ll now get on a good run of form. We’ve had a bit of a rough patch and hopefully this will give us the lift we need to finish strong."
Clint was there when it mattered again to slide home Gareth Bale's cross in the 75th minute. Jermain Defoe made it 2-1 with a cracker four minutes later and Gareth completed the job for 3-1 in the 82nd minute.
"We were under pressure at half-time at 1-0 down in a game where we really needed to get points," added Clint.
"We knew a goal would raise our spirits. It was a great ball in from Gareth and I tried to stay on the shoulder of the defender and I timed it right.
"That goal gave us a lift and the next two goals were fantastic, Lewis to Jermain, coming inside and he’s lethal in front of goal then Tom, a perfect pass into Gareth who was able to get his body in front of the defender and chip the goalkeeper.
"That was the icing in the cake. We knew once that goal went in we had it wrapped up."
