Clem's waiting game

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Stephen Clemence is undaunted by the prospect of a spell on the bench — and is more than prepared for a spot of reserve team duty, if required.

He was withdrawn from Tuesday night’s fixture at St Albans but would have turned out were he called on, and adopted his usual whole-hearted approach to the game.

The midfielder had been a fixture in the first team since October, playing in an unfamiliar role at left wing-back.

But he was rested for Luke Young in the FA Cup at Charlton last week and the change just happened to coincide with the memorable cup win and our first away win in the league this season at Manchester City on Saturday.

While Stephen is naturally disappointed to have been left out of the last two starting line-ups, he is not one to let his head go down and always remains professional when it comes to returning to the second string.

"I’d rather be in the first team at White Hart Lane but I’d still rather play games than train," he admits. "I like playing. I look forward to it, it keeps my fitness up and getting up for it won’t be a problem for me."

The 22-year-old played 19 consecutive games before returning to bench duty at The Valley last week.

"I’m disappointed not to be in the side again but maybe I needed a little rest. In the last couple of games I felt that I hadn’t done as well as I had been doing, so I’ve had a little rest now and I’ll try and get back in the team.

"In the West Ham and Southampton games I didn’t feel as confident or that I’d been playing as well as I had been.

"Playing left wing-back is a new position for me and in the majority of games I did well there. It’s been a good experience and I’ve added another string to my bow as well.

"I have to wait for my chance again now, do well in the reserves and try to get back in."
