Clem's left foot forward
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Stephen Clemence is sending all the wrong signals if he does NOT want to make the left wing-back role his own.
Clemence insists he doesn’t really enjoy it down the left flank but he has now set up five goals from that area!
Back in September he was switched to left midfield after Darren Anderton was injured against Everton and he went on to create all three goals in the 3-2 win.
On Sunday he was back on the left in a wing-back role against Liverpool in the televised Premiership encounter with Thatcher suspended and Mauricio Taricco still injured. This time he centred for both Les Ferdinand and Tim Sherwood to score in our excellent 2-1 success.
Yet Clemence admitted: “It’s not a role I’m completely comfortable with but that’s the second time I’ve been required to play there this season, once against Everton and I was involved in all three goals and fortunately again I’ve set up another couple.
“I must be doing something right out there but I enjoying playing up the middle the most. With Ben suspended and Mauricio still coming back from injury we required someone down the left and being left-footed, I got stuck out there.
“I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a great result for us and now we have to put this home form into our away form.”
Clemence joined in the chorus of plaudits for youngsters Ledley King and debutant Alton Thewell.
He added: “I thought Ledley and Alton came in today for probably their toughest-ever game, I know Ledley’s played before, but it was Alton’s debut and they were both outstanding.
“I thought all the lads were superb out there and I was pleased to see Les get a goal because he’s been tremendous for the last couple of weeks.”
