Clem's happy return
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Stephen Clemence admitted that there is a little way to go after he completed 65 minutes of his comeback game against West Ham at Dagenham on Tuesday evening.
Clem has been marked absent so far this term after suffering an Achilles injury during the summer, but looked bright on his return and his eye for a sharp pass and ability to execute it has certainly not been lost during his absence.
He points out, however, that the other major part of his game, closing down and tackling, is still lacking slightly but won’t take long to come back.
“It was alright, but obviously I felt a bit tired,” said Clem on leaving the pitch. “I was okay getting up and down, it was just the sharpness and getting close enough to people to get tackles in that is still not there yet.
“I’ll play again on Thursday now. I played more than I thought I would here — I thought it was only half a game. I felt good at half-time so they gave me longer.
“I was happy with my play on the ball, but you’ve got to do both sides of the game. I know that a big part of my game is helping to win the ball back and that part of the game isn’t quite there yet.
“It won’t take too long to get back though.”
We asked the midfielder whether he would feel a degree of nervousness about suffering a reaction when waking up the morning after his first run out.
“To be honest, I’ve been thinking that for the last few months really. Getting out of bed and wondering ‘is it going to be any better today?’
“I’ve done a couple of weeks training though and I know it won’t be a problem to me.”
