Clem shows his worth

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Stephen Clemence believes he's approaching the form and fitness that made him a first-choice midfielder at the club 15 months ago.

The 24-year-old was back on target for the reserves in Monday night's defeat against Charlton having scored twice against Leicester's second string at the Lane last week.

'Clem' won a place in the starting line-up in Glenn Hoddle's first full season but a knee injury at Blackburn in August 2001 required surgery and when he returned, further groin and Achilles problems meant he had to wait until a fortnight ago for his senior comeback.

"I feel I'm getting my confidence and sharpness back," he said. "All I can do now is keep performing well for the reserves and hopefully the manager will give me a chance.

"I've been out a long time and although I came back a little here and there, basically I've been out for 18 months.

"People will be looking at me and asking 'is he the same player that got injured at Blackburn?' and that is almost a year-and-a-half ago now.

"I showed a little at the end of last season when I thought I did okay but I've been out injured again since then. It's all about showing people all over again how much want to play in the team."

As for Monday's 3-2 defeat, Clem impressed and opened the scoring as we dominated the first half before Charlton hit back to win 3-2 in dense fog at Stevenage.

"I just wanted to carry on from last week," he added. "I thought I had a good game against Leicester and tried to put on a similar performance. I got on the scoresheet again, which was nice and the manager was watching, so I wanted to do as well as I could.

"We were 2-0 up, let in a rubbish goal for 2-1 when we should have been 4-0 up after the first 40 minutes.

"We wanted to get back to that in the second half but didn't, conceded from the kick-off and overall it was disappointing for the lads."
