Clem clocks a century

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Stephen Clemence clocked up his one-hundredth appearance for the first team on Saturday, having made his debut in August 1997 against Manchester United.

It is fitting that the milestone should fall in this season, a campaign where Clem has cemented a place in the team if not a position.

He has displayed a versatility, cool head and composure in a difficult season during which he has earned many plaudits from the management.

"I’m quite pleased to have played 100 games for Tottenham," said Clem. "I’m well happy with that when I think back a few years and I was making my debut. It would have nice to have scored a few more goals along the way but I do love it here and I want to stay here as long as I can.

A testimony to Stephen’s progress is the fact that he is no longer viewed as a young lad, more something of an old hand in comparison to this season’s first team intake.

"The young lads have all done well. They’ve been talked about a lot this year and they have to keep it going now. So far they haven’t let us down and that is good for the club.

"It’s good for the supporters when they see someone who has come through from the youth team because they know they have grown up around the club and know something about it rather than a player who might have cost a lot of money. It’s good experience for everyone including myself and I want to keep on learning.

In view of the campaign being something of a defining season in his career, it is understandable that Stephen is not hankering after the summer break just yet and is determined to make the most of every opportunity.

"We still want to win every game. We’re disappointed we didn’t beat Villa and although we’re looking forward to next season we still have two big games to play, Leicester and United, two difficult games and we want to go out there and finish the season on a high.

"There’s a buzz about the place with the new manager coming in, there are a lot of quality players to come back from the treatment room and hopefully next year we can go out and do something."
