Christmas Hotspur - out now!
We focus on Jermain Defoe's explosive goalscoring feats in the December issue of Hotspur magazine.
JD has roared past 200 goals in his club career with an amazing 128 of them coming in a Spurs shirt. That ongoing return has seen him move up to eighth place in our table of all-time goalscorers - and who knows where he will finish!
Jimmy Greaves is way out there in front on 266 goals and looks safe as does his strike partner Bobby Smith (208) and Martin Chivers on 174. But the likes of Cliff Jones (159), George Hunt (138), Len Duquemin (134) and Alan Gilzean (133) are certainly within Jermain’s hotshot sights.
Defoe looks back on all his goals, including his first ever at senior level. And he pays tribute to the players around him who provide the ammunition that he feeds off.
“I’m lucky to be in a great team playing with great players,” he says. “We have a squad full of internationals - and that also keeps you on your toes.”
Defoe is also delighted - and honoured - that his recent spate of goals has seen him overtake the great Teddy Sheringham.
"Catching Teddy? That’s special,” says Jermain. “Teddy’s a striker I used to watch as a kid at school. He was a great footballer and a fantastic goalscorer. To go above Teddy is really something else.”
And one lucky reader will win Jermain’s signed Spurs shirt in our latest free-to-enter competition. We also have a selection of club CDs up for grabs.
Gylfi Sigurdsson tells us all about Christmas at home in Iceland, JD returns to recommend the ideal presents for Spurs fans and eight of our players and coaches – including William Gallas, Clint Dempsey, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris tell us about their festive plans and memories.
As we celebrate the 50th season since our historic European Cup Winners’ Cup success, Martin Chivers and Phil Beal look back on their own subsequent Euro campaigns in a fascinating article taken from our stunning official new book, The Glory Glory Nights.
Tom Huddlestone is still dreaming of his next Spurs goal - but continuing to raise money for charity with his ‘hair-raising’ scheme! Goalkeeping coach Tony Parks, our 1984 UEFA Cup hero, returns to answer more questions from supporters and Steven Caulker is the man facing our ‘Box to Box’ challenge where he reveals that the first time he ever played at centre-half was - when he had a trial at Spurs!
In our two exclusive columns, Ledley King predicts a totally different Christmas for himself now that he has retired from playing while Ossie Ardiles will also be at home – having left his job as manager of recently relegated Japanese club Machida Zelvia!
We look at the players who faced up to and converted some of the most pressurised penalties in our recent history and catch up with former players Mark Falco and David Kerslake.
Sadly we say farewell to our 1981 FA Cup Final goalkeeper Milija Aleksic who died recently. And a group of his team-mates line up to pay tribute to the man who was special on and off the park. We also pay our respects to our former player Del Deanus who also tragically passed on recently.
London-born actor Jamie Bamber tells us about his love of Tottenham and we reflect on the Spurs careers of Percy Smith, John White and Jack Elkes.
It’s all in the December issue of our ever-popular monthly magazine Hotspur. Don’t miss it!
