Christian's surprise

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Christian Ziege admits he has surprised himself with his recovery rate from the horror thigh injury he sustained on Boxing Day.

Just two months after having emergency surgery and a ten inch cut to relieve the pressure on his swollen thigh, Christian has now trained twice with the reserve squad and reports that he is running and kicking the ball with no problems.

"It is the second time I have trained with them - I did 45 minutes today," said the German international on Thursday. "It looks good and my touches are alright with the ball.

"Obviously my fitness is a long way from what I had - but I am delighted.

"Sometimes I get a strange feeling and the muscle gets tired quicker than normal. They say that is usual and that it will take time until the muscle gets back to its full workrate.

"I am really delighted though. I can kick a ball, I can move - it's just nice."

Immobilised in hospital at the turn of the year, did Christian ever imagine that he would be back in the running so quickly?

"No, especially after the operation. I was told it would take months to get back to walking around properly but, like you say, it has been just two months and I am back on the training field."

Glenn stated last week that he feels there is a 'glimmer of hope' that Christian could still feature in the current campaign.

"If everything goes like it is now it could be a possibility," agreed the player. "I don't want to say too much in case things change though.

"I'll just do my work day by day and, when the time comes, we'll see."

Even though he is back in training, Christian concedes that he has yet to attempt any rasping 30 yard free-kicks.

"No, it's too far away still!"
