Christian's mission

12 February 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen senses something special happening at Spurs.

“We’re on the edge of really accomplishing something,” said the Danish playmaker.

“We know we have the quality, the talent, the potential and a really good squad with really good players.”

It’s the ‘but’ that follows that underlines the determination and focus currently coursing through the squad.

“But we have to go out there and show it every week.”

Christian was in fine form in last week’s fine display against Watford - where he created eight chances in our 1-0 win at the Lane, a win that moved us into second in the Premier League.

He has four goals, eight assists and has racked up 77 chances in Premier League action.

“Personally, I’m in a good position. I feel confident, I feel really good and just like the whole team, I’m eager to get the chance to win something,” he said.

“We want to keep going. We’re all want to win something but at the same time, we’re realistic. We know we’re in a good position and we need to be really strong to maintain it, so it’s a game at a time and we’ll see where we end up.”

How important was the 4-1 win at home against City in September?
“I think it had a big impact. It gave us confidence and showed everyone that we’re capable of beating that quality of team. Hopefully we’ll go up there and do what we’ve done in the last few games, work for it, create chances and hopefully win the game. It’s a special game.”

You scored last season – what do you remember about that game?
Christian: “We started really well, high pressure, played well and ended up a little unlucky (we missed a penalty at 2-1 down, Federico Fazio was then sent off). We’re further on than last season squad-wise and as players so we have a chance to do well. We’re a young team and we know anything can happen but we go there positive and confident.”

Finally, what have you made of Dele Alli’s performances?
Christian: “He’s a really young lad and doing a great job. Everyone has seen how talented he is and what he can bring to the team. He brings something different. He’s a smart guy and it’s easy to play with someone like that.”
