Christian's goal

22 May 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen feels the performance against Everton back in November showed what the team is capable of – and he’d love a repeat in the season’s finale at Everton.

Rocked by a home loss against Stoke on November 9, the players returned from an international break to put together a run of nine wins and two draws in 13 matches in the Premier League, starting with Christian’s last-minute winner at Hull on November 23 to the derby win against Arsenal on February 7.

The second match of that run was a fine 2-1 win against Everton at the Lane on November 30 as we recovered from Kevin Mirallas’ early strike to take the points thanks to goals from Christian and Roberto Soldado.

“That win started things for us, we showed everyone that day what we're capable of if we play to our best,” said Christian.

“Of course, there have been ups and downs but that match turned things around at the time.”

Christian’s equaliser that day had pundits asking ‘was it on purpose’.

Harry Kane’s shot was parried by Tim Howard to Christian on the left of the box with Seamus Coleman closing him down and both Howard and Gareth Barry scrambling to get back on the line. However, Christian managed to find a finish over Coleman and across Barry into the far corner.

“I’m suppose to say yes (I meant it), but I’d agree that I kicked it a little into the ground, but I’ll say on purpose!” he smiled.

As for Sunday’s finale, we have the chance to finish fifth following Liverpool’s defeat at home to Palace last week - we trail the Reds by a point and they travel to Stoke.

“It’s an exciting final game at Everton,” added Christian. “If we can end up higher we should take that chance of we get it. Hopefully we’ll play a good game and finish the season well, if we do that it will be all smiles and a good feeling going into next season.”
