Christian Eriksen has won the most prestigious individual award in Danish football - the Player of the Year Award for 2013 from the Danish Football Players' Association.

The accolade was announced at a sports gala dinner in Denmark late on Saturday night, just hours after Christian lined-up against Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.

Capped 42 times by Denmark, Christian helped Ajax clinch a third-successive Dutch title before joining us in August. He beat the likes of Peter Ankersen (Ejsberg FC), Martin Braithwaite (Toulouse), Jores Okore (Villa) and Daniel Agger (Liverpool) to take the honour.

Just back from an ankle injury, Christian has been in fine form, highlighted by two goals in his last four games - a fantastic free-kick against West Brom and a diving header for the second goal in our 2-1 win at Manchester United on New Year's Day.

Christian described the award as a 'special honour' and told us: "It’s a big thing, a real honour to win this award from my fellow professionals. It's a proud moment for me."
