Chris sees a<br> maturing King

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Chris Hughton says he can see a growing maturity in Ledley King.

Still only 23, Ledley has certainly grown and grown as a player, reflected in his performances both at club and international level.

At Spurs he's been handed the captain's armband a couple of times this season while he's also climbed up the pecking order in terms of England selection.

Coach Chris has been there every step of the way in Ledley's rise from the Academy to the reserves, first team and now international football.

"What we're all striving for is development in players," said Chris. "No-one had any doubts that Ledley would be a a very good player but there are always ups and downs along the road.

"He had an injury a couple of years ago that kept him out for a long time and last season he had the situation that because of numbers and injuries, he ended up playing in midfield. I always thought he'd be better for that.

"He's now getting to the age where he's maturing as a player and it's starting to show."

On international duty himself in his role as Ireland's assistant manager last week, Chris said he was delighted when he heard the news filtering through that Ledley, Jermain Defoe and Paul Robinson had all started for England against Poland.

"From the club's perspective it's great the lads played and great they played in a winning side," he added.

"It's important because it helps their prospects going into the next games.

"Take Jermain, I'm sure he's gone from someone who just missed out on the European Championships to someone who now has his foot firmly in the door. And that's not just from the last game but his league performances for us have been very good and that's been noted by everyone."
