Chris: Opportunity knocks
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Chris Hughton insists his reserve team players have to see our impending change of management as a fresh chance to prove themselves.
Without question, players who have impressed in the second string this season have gone on to get their chance in the big time.
Injuries may have forced our hand but the likes of Gary Doherty, Ledley King, Alton Thelwell, Simon Davies, Matthew Etherington, Dave McEwen and Anthony Gardner have all featured in the Premiership after doing their ground work in the reserves. Ciaran Toner and Ian Hillier have also been in first team squads.
Reserve team boss Chris says George Graham's departure means these players have to prove themselves all over again — or, perhaps, for players that hadn’t featured so regularly, the chance to thrust themselves into the limelight.
The reserves return to action against Derby County at the Lane on Tuesday night.
Chris said: “The lads will get on with their jobs and the fact that this has just happened, whenever there is a situation like this players always have to look at themselves.
“One thing they do know is that there will be a different manager at some stage and when that is the case, there is always an opportunity there to prove yourself or put together a run of games whereby someone else might see you in a different light.
“There are so many different reasons to do well and they have to make sure they grasp it.
“They have to see it as an opportunity to feature where perhaps they haven’t featured before or be in the frame where they haven’t before.
“They have to look at it that whether the old manager was good or bad for them it is a new start.”
