Chris on Kingstonian test
17 July 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Chris Ramsey says our younger professionals have to quickly make the transition from Academy to senior football – and that starts with our Spurs XI’s first pre-season friendly at Kingstonian on Thursday night.
We travel to the Ryman Premier League team’s Kingsmeadow Stadium for a 7.45pm kick-off.
Chris, our Senior Professional Phase Coach, insists the youngsters can take inspiration from the performances of the likes of Nabil Bentaleb, Laste Dombaxe, Kenny McEvoy and Shaq Coulthirst, who all stepped up in the second half of our Under-21s fine campaign last term.
“There are graduates from the Academy team last season who are now moving closer to senior football and they have to get to grips with that quickly so they can progress this season,” said Chris.
“Kingstonian is therefore a very good start for us, a great initiation for some of the younger lads into senior football against a strong non-league side.
“Players like Nabil, Laste, Kenny and Shaq all did well in the second half of last season and what that means for them is when they go to train with the first team, there is a level of trust there.
“A lot of players impressed on loan last season and Massimo Luongo, Alex Pritchard and Grant Hall (all on loan at Swindon for teh 2013-14 season) all did well for Swindon against the first team on Tuesday night.
“The younger players have to understand that there is a difference between playing youth football and senior football and they have to make that step now.”
Tickets will be available on the turnstiles from 6.45pm (from the end of the stadium next to the Athletics Stadium) and priced as follows (prices from Kingstonian's official website):
Senior (60 & over): £4
Junior (Under 16's): Free
