Chelsea U18s v Spurs - Kieran's preview
08 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Our youngsters are in Barclays Under-18 Premier League action for the first time since the start of December this weekend, with a tough trip to Chelsea on the agenda.
We take on the Blues at their Cobham training base on Saturday morning, kick-off 11am, just three days after the disappointment of our FA Youth Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough.
The boys will then jet off to Mexico next week for another international tournament, with Under-18s Coach Kieran McKenna keen to see some of the wrongs of our midweek defeat put right, both domestically against Chelsea and then in our latest overseas test.
“It’s a good game to have this weekend after the disappointing night on Wednesday – it’s Chelsea away, they’re a good side and it will be a tough game so everyone’s got to recover quickly, get themselves mentally and physically right and look to put on a good performance on Saturday,” he said.
“That’s not just against Chelsea either – this week has got to be a big, harsh learning curve in the boys’ careers. They’ve got to look at the parts of the game they got exposed on against Middlesbrough and look at how they can rectify that going forward.
“Obviously we’re in between tournaments at the moment and with the IMG Cup in Florida last month, the FA Youth Cup and the Mexico trip coming up we’re going to be playing in four different competitions in a short space of time so really it’s a case of approaching every game as it comes and making sure we prepare as well as we can so the boys can do their best on the pitch.”
