Chelsea 2-1 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction
26 November 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino had a message as the dust settled on our 2-1 loss at Chelsea.
“We need to be calm. It’s true we’re out of the Champions League and that was tough. But the way we’re competing, it’s one defeat after 13 games and we’re in a good position in the Premier League. Why be worried? I think we sometimes make problems bigger. We need to stay calm because the answer of the team was fantastic today.”
The team responded superbly to Tuesday night’s defeat at Monaco.
That put us out of the Champions League but there was no hangover here.
For 44 minutes, we bossed proceedings against a team top of the Premier League with six straight wins. Christian Eriksen fired us ahead and the game looked there for the taking.
Pedro capitalised when we lost possession to level just before the break and boosted by that goal, Chelsea stepped up at the start of the second half and Victor Moses scored what turned out to be the winner on 51 minutes.
We managed to push the home team back as the half progressed without carving out that final, golden chance to level.

‘We deserved more’
Mauricio: “If you analyse the whole game, I think we deserve more. That is football. It is difficult to explain, you are better and yet you lose 2-1. It’s about scoring or not scoring goals. We feel proud about the performance and the players. It was a good performance.”
‘Only disappointed in the result’
Mauricio: “It’s always hard when you play against Chelsea at Chelsea, they’ve had a clear week to prepare, they are in good form, but the way we played, how we showed character, how we competed was fantastic, something to be proud about. I feel disappointed only about the result, for the rest we need to feel pleased and proud of the effort of the players.”
‘We look forward’
Mauricio: “I was pleased with how we competed, how we started the game, it’s normal to have periods in the game here at Chelsea that are difficult because they push, they are a very good team with good players. We can only look forward, to be better and now we have a week to work hard and try to win the game against Swansea.”
