Our reserves have won the Barclays Reserve League South title.

Our reserves have won the Barclays Reserve League South title.

Southampton's 5-1 victory against Arsenal on Wednesday night means Clive Allen's men cannot be caught at the top of the table.

Our 3-0 win against Ipswich Town on Tuesday night left us needing just one point to clinch the title ourselves but also meant Arsenal had to win all their games and hope we lost ours just to draw level on points.

We now sit 14 points clear of Southampton, who have three games left, and 15 clear of Arsenal, who have four remaining. We have three games left ourselves against Crystal Palace on Monday and then Coventry City home (April 10) and away (April 25).

There can be few arguments that the title has gone to the right home - the first time it has done so since the 1994-95 season.

Clive's squad have put together a run of 14 wins in their last 15 games, have scored the most goals (52), conceded the fewest (11) and have a plus-41 goal difference after 23 games.

Lee Barnard also remains on course to take the top scorer's crown in the division having reached the 20-goal mark on Tuesday night.

"I'm delighted for everyone and it's been a fantastic team effort," beamed Clive.

"I've sent text messages to all the lads and they all know they've all played their part in this success.

"We've made great strides this season. I said to the lads on day one that I wanted to win this title, they wanted the same and they've done it in style.

"I'm proud and privileged to have led this group to the championship."
